phenotype: Eyes bright vermilion, darkening with age. Ocelli colorless, even in old fly; a reliable trait for classifying st se. Eyes of bw; st white. Eye color autonomous in larval optic disks transplanted into wild-type hosts (Beadle and Ephrussi, 1936, Genetics 21: 230). Larval Malpighian tubes pale yellow (Beadle, 1937, Genetics 22: 587-611).
