phenotype: Eye color ruby at hatching, darkening to purplish ruby with age; orange in combination with st, reddish brown in combination with bw (Mainx, 1938, Z. Induktive Abstammungs-Vererbungslehre 75: 256-76). Eye color autonomous in larval optic disks transplanted into wild-type hosts (Beadle and Ephrussi, 1936, Genetics 21: 230). Larval Malpighian tubes normal (Beadle, 1937, Genetics 22: 587-611). A lethal interaction of pr and ey reported by Clemente (1941, Proc. Intern. Congr. Genet., 7th. p. 90) could not be confirmed by Green (1955, DIS 29: 121). RK1.
